this article happened from trying to help a colleague, and I saw how desperate they were at the time, to avoid others going through that situation necessitated this guide.

What are UTM Links?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) links are URLs with added parameters that track the performance of marketing campaigns, they’re useful to know where your leads are performing great or otherwise, simply put you it tell point you to the source of your different marketing campaigns
What are they used for?
They are used to identify the source, medium, campaign, and other details of website traffic in analytics tools like Google Analytics, to make marketing decision within your campaign, knowing exactly where your ads are performing better will streamline your decisions and so on.
Why are they needed?
UTM links help you understand which marketing efforts or your ad - holy grail for marketing executives. enabling better decision-making and ROI tracking.
How to generate one:
There are five key UTM parameters:
utm_source: Identifies the source of the traffic (e.g., Google, newsletter, Instagram etc.)
utm_medium: Identify the medium of the traffic (e.g., email, CPC, social). utm_campaign: Identifies the campaign name, slogan, promo code, etc
utm_term (optional): Identifies paid search keywords. You can skip this if it's not relevant.
utm_content (optional): Differentiates similar content, links, or ads that point to the same URL. You can skip this if it’s not important.
Use a UTM Builder Tool:
Fill in the Parameters:
now you understand what these key words are for, and they are fairly straightforwardWebsite URL, Campaign Source, Campaign Medium, Campaign Name.
Generate URL:
- Click “Generate URL” to create your UTM link.
Use the Link:
- Share the generated URL in your marketing campaigns.
and you’ve created your trackable link!
